Codices
A Codex is the Citadel's shopping cart. It is a place to gather submissions into a coherent entity. The most frequent way to use a Codex is to gather like submissions together into one place. For instance Bizarre Life-Forms Challeng has brought together a large collection of lifeforms that have been submitted on the site. So instead of clicking on submission after submission, the codex brings it all into one place for an easy read. Identically you can use the Codex to bring together a setting full of different type submissions like done with Aviontix. There are many other ways to use them as well as you will see once you start exploring them.
Scrolls
If the Codex is the shopping cart, then a Scroll is the shopping list. Scrolls are used for interactivity in submissions allowing others to add ideas and thoughts to your initial idea. A great example is -and a ten foot pole which brings together a laundry list of interesting items adventurers could carry on an adventure. Another great scroll is simply a list of user submitted books you might find in a library.
Scrolls can be nicely mixed with Codices as well to form a rather comprehensive lexicon of associated ideas as demonstrated with the huge One Hundred Six Islands Codex.
Freetext
The Citadel has a pretty comprehensive set of categories to put your submissions in but sometimes you need that little extra description. Freetext allows you to put in whatever description you want. It is just another way to organize post of similar types. A description of Freetext might be the word gold. A sub that has gold as a central theme would benefit from using this word as a freetext. By grouping these through your freetext it is simply another way to find like submissions.
Each Freetext is also listed with that submission with a link that will show other submissions that use that same descriptive word. So if you come upon a submission that has a “gold” theme and you think it is a good idea and will use it, the freetext link associated with it will guide to you even more submissions with the same theme.
Advice Requested and In Work
These are submissions that authors are currently working on. Each user has their own workspace where they can store any number of submissions that they don’t have to submit to the main Citadel and they can continue to work on them at their own pace. Each author can decide which ones are visible to everybody and each author can only have one Advice Requested submission active at a time, the rest would just be normal In Work.

Hall of Honour
Members of a certain level and higher gain the ability to push submissions to the front page of the Citadel. This allows them to redisplay posts that they really enjoyed or that have not been commented on in a long time. It is always a good idea to check out the Hall of Honour (HoH) posts when you get a chance and see why they were Honoured for the day.
Golden Submissions
The highest level Strolenites have the ability to cast a Golden vote on submissions. These votes are saved for those that are most worthy of the recognition. It requires a council of Strolenites to designate a submission Golden. Golden submissions are the cream of the crop and are the ones to look at if you are wondering what the best submissions on the site are. Many subs can get high ratings, but only a small percentage ever gain the Golden label.
Golden Nominations show what people are currently voting on and reveal the nominees to the Strolenites to allow them to cast their vote.
The Rest
The rest of the labels are pretty self explanatory and have proved useful.

Suggested Submissions
As you are reading a submission, at the end right above the comment block you will often see a few “Suggested Submissions.” These are user suggested submissions that may go well with the current submission. The author has final control over what submissions remain suggested with their sub, but any registered user can suggest a sub.
Link Back
Each suggested submission automatically gets a automatic link in their submission to the submission they were suggested to. Get it? Me neither. Here is an example. There is an Item called Abligurion with a suggested submission with it called Falhath . If you follow this suggested link you will see on the Falhath main sub that Abligurion has a Link Back in the right menu. In this case, Falhath has been linked to quite a few subs which will give you even more to look at if the path interests you.

There are crimes for which a man is not killed, but chased into the wilds, away from his home and country, to not return or be killed on the spot. In one culture is the condemned mutilated, and even his vocal cords are damaged so that the voice is unrecognizable to his friends and family. This is the punishment for people too obsessed with their own prestige. ~ manfred
